What is delhipicks ?
New Bracelets Collections
Some of our new bracelets.
delhipicks is a year old.
Friends, it was about a year back that we actually started working on our business endeavour, delhipicks. And we haven’t looked back since. Ups and downs, learnings and failures. Euphoria and melancholy, all hand in hand.
When I come to think of it, the seeds were actually sown about a decade back! I still remember, renting my first set of business books from Boston Public Library way back in year 2007. It has taken 10 years of reading, asking, brainstorming, doubts, disbelief, faith, prayers, hanging on, creative spurts, discoveries, mistakes and much more.
What keeps us firm on this path, is the fact that what we provide for our customers, excite and invigorate our senses too ☺️. When I hold a piece of beautiful earring or bracelet, the woman in me wants to keep it for myself, the professional keeps it back☺️. And the excitement of providing that good looking jewellery or bag to others keeps us going ☺️ .
We have come to know many good people from across the country while bringing their creations to you. And it is soul nurturing! Because these people are enthusiastic about what they do, they are hardworking and most of all, full of hope.
Friends, thanks for being a part of delhipicks journey. From what I know about myself ( data analysis of my behaviour ☺️), there are going to be surprises, exciting additions and much more at delhipicks ☺️. Keep watching.
Ladies, Love Yourself The Way You Are
If you were asked whom would you want to look like, is there any picture that would stick in your mind? And would that picture survive the barrage of doubts and confusion? I guess, not ☺️ . You may think for a while that you want a different shade of skin, or another texture of hair. It won’t stay long.
We are most comfortable the way we are created ! We may get highly influenced by the opinions and fads. We may also try to mutate our originality for kicks ☺️. All this gives a temporary comfort, looking different or like someone else. It’s fun every once in a while ☺️ .
The permanent solution to feel good about yourself, is to embrace your reality the way you have been created. Feel at home within yourself.
Bare it all sometimes, I mean what’s within the dictum of decency ☺️ . Spend time in your natural looks, without any external enhancers of beauty. Feel complacent with your true self. Go out, meet people in your plain looks. It is liberating ☺️ .
When you love your unvarnished self, you enjoy enhancing its beauty all the more. You love to dress up, wear jewellery and dab makeup all the more. You now know that you are beautiful without all of it. Your accessories and lipper are no more essentials, but on demand ☺️ . You can take it all off, and feel equally attractive. When you feel gorgeous, you look gorgeous ☺️.
Be lean on makeup etal on a Sunday, and see how much you are going to enjoy adorning on Monday ☺️ .
How Every Woman Feels
A woman feels a lot ! Ya, I mean it ☺️. She feels good, bad, sad, happy, ugly, pretty, angry and funny. You name it and she feels it. One day she feels fat, the other day she feels all right. Someday she thinks she is pink, and on others she feels brown. With so many feelings flooding her existence, even she is lost about what it is that she exactly feels at any given moment 😊 .
Whatever a woman feels, she wants it to reflect in her exterior. If she is tired, she wants to wear some relaxed and light clothes. If she is in a celebratory mood, she wants to wear something colourful and vibrant. If it’s a no nonsense kind of a day for her, comfort and practicality define her attire.
She wants her accessories to be inline with her emotions and coordinated with her dress. She loves to wear light and breezy earrings to express her feelings when she is in a playful mood. She needs something expressive and loud when she wants to make a statement. When in a party mood, she likes to wear trendy and look chic. So much in a single woman ☺️ ☺️ .
One problem that I always faced was wearing and taking off precious/expensive jewelry. We, in India, and maybe else where too, are obsessed with gold and diamonds. The problem is, you can’t replace the precious metal everyday to go along with your mood. You cannot take off your gold earrings whenever you want. You fear you may lose them in the process. Once they are on you, they stay there for days and months. The result, your inner feelings and outer reflection contradict many times ☺️.
I gave up this infatuation with precious metal long time back. I set myself free to explore the otherside of this world. The inexpensive, everyday, trendy, flattering styles to go along with my mood ☺️. Now, I have loads to choose from and express with.
India has so many art forms, its indescribable. In my journey, I have discovered people who build beautiful and intricate designs of jewelry with their creative hands. These ornaments are of different styles, colours and essence, depicting different shades of life. I am loving it all, and trying to bring them to the people who appreciate it too at delhipicks☺️ .
Friends, just let go of this bias for yellow and white for a while, and look around with wide eyes. There is a lot of colourful and exhilarating art around to be picked up and worn by you ☺️.
delhipicks began as a journey to visit different markets of Delhi, and picking up beautiful accessories for you all. Here is a description of our trips to these beautiful markets.
Visit to Connaught Place
Friends, if you are a Delhiite, then you surely know that Connaught Place is the heart of this city. Its majestic buildings, all white and European style, make this place stand out from the rest of the city.
If you enter CP from Shivaji Stadium side, you will get a glimpse of the Indian street side life. You will see temples and some joints selling fast food .Venders selling flowers and temple items complete the picture.
Try out kachori and aaloo sabzi from the small shops, they are made with extra care to meet the religious requirements like avoiding onion and garlic .
The delicacy shown below is mouth-watering and affordable ☺️ . The butter will keep you satiated for hours.
White buildings define the core architecture of CP. You find an expanse of white everywhere. You also find many tourists here, buying Indian handicrafts and jewellery ☺️ .
Some places are very old, and we can identify with them as our childhood favourite places like Wengers, Nirula‘s, Palika Bazaar etc.
The best way to reach CP is by Metro. You can either reach there by Blue Line and get down at Rajiv Chawk. Or you can take Airport Express and de-board at Shivaji Stadium.
There are some very old and famous movie theatres, Regal and Rivoli to name a few. I remember being a regular at Regal with my sister and mother for our fun outings 🙂 .
Friends, Connaught Place is a must visit. You are not done with Delhi if you have not been to CP ☺️ .
Chandni Chawk, old Delhi
Chandni Chawk is one of the oldest markets of Delhi. It reflects the essence of olden days of this city. And it is extremely crowded, not to forget 🙂 . The best way to reach here is by Delhi Metro service.
This is the chosen market whenever one needs to make purchases for weddings or any other traditional gatherings. Wedding lehengas, sherwani, juttis, jewellery, accessories, ‘choora'(traditional bangles that brides wear on wedding day), are all easily available here, and in a large variety.
It also houses some extremely popular eateries, that have been there for as long as you can remember. One such destination is ‘paranthe waali gali’, which is known for its ‘paranthas’ (stuffed breads). Then there are ‘kachori’ shops. Foodies should take out ample time, and visit these places to satiate their appetite 🙂 .
Whenever you visit, wear some very good pair of shoes, there is lots to walk and explore here 🙂 .
Karol Bagh Market
Today I walked through the roads of a very popular and old market, Karol Bagh. This market is very popular for getting everyday essentials, as well as special occasion clothing and accessories.
Things to look out for are: accessories like earrings, bangles etc. Beautifully coloured clothing like skirts, tops, shirts and kurtis. Some shops provide comfortable and trendy shoes, the kind that you would want to wear daily, and look pretty 🙂
Karol Bagh is easily reachable by Delhi Metro, very convenient. Take a rickshaw from there if you don’t like walking much.
Punjab sweet corner is a must visit if you are fond of mouth watering stuff like chola bhatura, chaat, bread pakoras etc. Its absolutely yummy:D
Picked up some Jaipuri skirts from the elderly uncle seen below. He was very forthcoming when I asked him for a picture 😛 .
Visit to Sarojini Nagar Market
Sarojini Nagar market is one of the most essential markets for women in Delhi. It houses shops and stalls for clothes, jewellery, bags, shoes, eatables and yummy street food. Almost anything you can think of. All the stuff is authentic Indian style, beautiful prints, colours and fabrics. The market is always crowded by college going girls, women of all ages, and young couples romancing 🙂
